In the first period from October 2009 - June 2011 the Aspen Culture Project organised EVENTS such as the Tea and Coffee party, Taste different cultures event and Britain to me is exhibition to celebrate and raise awareness of the diversity and commonalities of cultures that reside in the North East of England such as
Our project also organised a NATIONAL CONFERENCE on March 8th 2011 for the Centenary of International Women's Day at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. The conference brought together over 130 people from all over the country.This conference was the culmination of 15 months of events, research, group and volunteer work with women from diverse backgrounds. As well as launching the Aspen Culture training pack, the conference aimed to promote awareness of the advantages that sharing culture can bring and to address cultural inequalities of women in the North East – our Aspen Culture – the culture of the aspen communities of trees which share roots, live and endure in a healthy community and survive harsh conditions together. The conference hosted as speakers, Dr Jung Chang author of the world best seller Wild Swans and the Finnish photographer and film-maker Sirkka-Liisa Konttinen a founder member of the Amber Collective.
